Writing Activities: Year 4

Deer

There are six species of deer that live in the UK. Although the population of deer is expanding, it can be rare to see them, as they like to remain secretive in their woodland homes. Deer have antlers which are madeĀ of a bone-like material that regenerates annually.

In this clip, we will see a deer bellowing loudly – what is he trying to say?

Literacy idea

Imagine you are an expert in translation and fluent in deer-speak.

Write down a translation of what the deer in the video is saying.

Think about the following:

  • How do you think the deer is feeling?
  • Why do you think he is standing where he is?
  • What do you think he is trying to say?

Wider curriculum idea

Using the diagram of a deer from dkfindout.com, draw your own diagram of a deer, labelling it correctly.
