Clip Description

Salt flats are large areas of flat land that were once lake beds. Covered with salt and other minerals, they often appear dazzling white. Although they look like a wasteland, unable to support living creatures, they are home to the salt flat lizard. This small lizard has had to adapt to survive in these hot, dry and salty conditions.

In this fascinating clip, we see the blistering sun beating down on the flat, barren salt lands of the Atacama Desert. Here, a salt flat lizard is frantically searching for fresh water, on which its life depends. Will he be able to find the all-important fresh water that he needs to survive?
