  • Imagine you are a sloth bear cub. All of a sudden, you hear your mother sounding the alarm to warn you that a predator is nearby. Write a diary entry about how you felt and how you reacted to her calls.
  • In Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, a bear called Baloo features in some of the stories. It is thought that he is a sloth bear, but his appearance is very different. Find pictures of Baloo and of a real life sloth bear, and create a Similarities and Difference Chart that includes lots of expanded noun phrases.
  • Sloth bears are experiencing habitat loss due to the destruction of forests for wood and for agricultural purposes. Write a letter to the Indian government to persuade them to place a ban on deforestation.
