Writing Ideas

  • Imagine that you are an alligator. You are fed up with tourists cruising through the Everglades, taking photographs of you and saying “Wow! Look at that incredible crocodile!” What would you say to a tourist who had just mistaken you for a crocodile? How would you educate them about the differences between alligators and crocodiles?
  • Taking ideas from the main film clip, where a male crocodile was ‘singing’ to attract a female, write your own acrostic poem. You might like to start it in this way:

A cold-blooded creature

Lurking in the swamp water

Looking for a mate

  • An area of wetland is about to be drained for houses and roads to be built on. Write a persuasive letter to the developers, explaining why this should not happen. In your letter you will need to express your concern about the impact this will have on alligators and explain why they are such important creatures that need protecting.
