Howler Monkeys
Howler monkeys feed mostly on leaves, but will sometimes eat fruit, seeds, flowers, buds and moss. They will occasionally steal birds’ eggs. Because leaves take a very long time to digest, much of each howler monkey’s day is spent resting. This makes howlers one of the most peaceful monkey species.
Howler monkeys have a prehensile (gripping) tail. The monkeys use their tail as a fifth limb to grip branches. Although they are quite large, they are actually quite light, and their tail can easily hold their own weight.
The howler monkey is famous for having one of the loudest calls in the animal kingdom. Howler monkeys usually howl during the mornings and evenings to alert neighbouring troops of their presence.

Black howler monkeys are the largest monkeys found in the rainforests of South and Central America, and they very rarely leave the treetops. They drink by wetting their hands on moist leaves and licking the water off their hands.
