The Grammar Bit!
Proofreading is an important stage in the writing process. It involves spotting and correcting any mistakes that you may have made in your writing. Using the CUPS checklist (below) is a great way to spot if errors have been made.
C = Have capital letters been used correctly?
U = Do sentences sound right? (understanding)
P = Are sentences correctly punctuated?
S = Are words spelt correctly?
Read the three scintillating sentences opposite. One has been proofread and two haven’t. With your talk partner, can you spot the two that need proofreading? See if you can use the CUPS checklist (above) to identify any corrections that need to be made.
Scintillating Sentences
1) Emus are difficult creatures to care for and can be quite mischievous.
2) female emus lay large emerald-green eggs. witch occasionally disapear if snakes or other nest raiders are nearby
3) one particularly pesky emu enjoyed snaching brolgas hat of his head with its powerful beek.
Did you know?
Once a female emu has laid her eggs, the male emu takes over. He will incubate the eggs for about seven weeks without drinking, feeding, going to the toilet or leaving the nest.
