Clip Description

The common toad comes in a variety of shades – from olive green to dark brown. Despite its warts and association with witches, it is a gardener’s friend. This is because it likes nothing more than gobbling up pesky slugs and snails. During the winter, it hibernates in deep, leafy mounds, log piles or burrows. It emerges in the spring, ready to mate and produce tadpoles.

In this fascinating clip, we meet the male toads who take their lives in their hands on their mission to find a mate. Between their hibernation home and the lake lies a huge danger – a busy road. Will they make it across safely and find the female toads of their dreams? Watch the clip to find out.
