Clip Description

The Nile crocodile is Africa’s largest crocodilian – a family that includes alligators, crocodiles, caimans and gharials. It is the ‘ultimate’ survivor, having remained relatively unchanged since the period when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Although a Nile crocodile’s diet mainly consists of fish, this fearsome predator will attack and eat almost anything unfortunate enough to cross its path including zebra, birds, small hippos, other crocodiles and even humans.

In this fascinating clip, with the help of some nifty spy cameras, we are shown the ‘softer’ side of a female Nile crocodile. Emerging from their sandy nest, her newly-hatched babies are extremely vulnerable. How will she quickly move her delicate brood to the safety of the river? Watch the clip to find out.
