Clip Description

Walruses are sociable marine mammals that like to hang out together in large groups (sometimes 100 individuals or more). A walrus will use its distinctive, long tusks to haul its large, blubbery body out of the Arctic Ocean and onto the sea ice.

In this fascinating clip, the Blue Planet team attempt to capture unique footage of walruses using a special, super wide-angled camera called the Megadome. The cameraman and diver, David Reichert, is particularly nervous about being in the water with a protective mother and her cub at such close range. Will he remain out of harm’s way?
