Spider crabs are slow-moving scavengers. With tasting and sensing organs located on the tip of each walking leg, the spider crab can identify food that is buried deep within the mud of the ocean floor.
In this fascinating clip, an army of spider crabs is on the move. They march across the seabed in their hundreds of thousands in search of a safe place to grow. Like most crabs, the spider crab’s body is enclosed by a hard, unexpandable shell. But, with this protective armour, how is it possible for a spider crab to grow? Watch the clip to find out.
