Clip Description

Sage grouse, also known as the sagehen, live in sagebrush country of the western United States as well as southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada. These large, chicken-like birds are grey or brown in colour, which helps them to blend in with their surroundings.

In this fascinating clip, we get to see and hear the fascinating way in which the males use their brightly-coloured air sacs to create a sound that attracts the females to their display ground. What do you think will happen when two male birds want the same patch? Watch the clip to find out.
