Clip Description

Legs support an animal’s body and allow it to move. Humans have two legs. Other mammals, such as horses and cats, have four legs. Their two front legs are called forelegs, and their two back legs are called hind legs. Animals that move by using all four legs are called quadrupeds. Do you know of any other words that start with the prefix ‘quad-?’  A quadrilateral is a four-sided shape and a quadbike is a kind of motorbike with four large wheels.

In this fascinating clip, we are shown the great African wildebeest migration. It is the largest movement of quadrupeds on the planet. It includes one and a half million wildebeest, as well as thousands of zebras and gazelles. The animals are in search of fresh grass to eat. It is a dangerous journey as they must avoid the hungry mouths of dangerous predators such as lions and hyenas.

Quick Number Challenge

How many different numbers can you make that use four fours?

(You can add, subtract, multiply or divide these numbers.)

e.g.  4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16            4 + 4 + 4 – 4 = 8
