Within a colony of almost a million chinstrap penguins, there was an enormous crèche containing 1,381 chinstrap penguin chicks. A further 235 chicks joined the crèche, while their parents headed out to sea to find food.

How many chinstrap penguin chicks were there in the crèche after the new arrivals?

Did you know?

While chinstrap parents hunt for food at sea, young chinstrap chicks band together in a group called a crèche. A small crèche may have a few adults watching over it. However, a large crèche will often be unsupervised!
