Clip Description

There are 8 species of bear living in the world today. These incredible mammals vary considerably in terms of their size and weight as well as the habitats in which they live. However, bears share a number of common characteristics. They all have an excellent sense of smell, sharp claws and a stocky, fur-covered body. They usually walk on all four legs, although they will sometimes stand up and walk on just their back (hind) two legs.

In this fascinating clip, we can see a brown (grizzly) bear standing upright and rubbing its back against the trunk of a tree. Why is it behaving in such a peculiar way? Watch the clip to find out.
