Clip Description

In Britain we have around 270 species of bee. These incredible six-legged flying insects are super important. This is because they play a vital role in pollinating the food that we need to survive. They also pollinate many of the trees and flowers that provide habitats for wildlife.

In this fascinating clip, we see a swarm of honey bees in flight. Captured in ultra slow motion we see how the rapid beating of their wings enables them to take off and manoeuvre effortlessly in the air, despite carrying over half their own body weight in nectar and pollen.

Quick Number Challenge

In the clip we are told that honey bees flap their wings 230 times every second.

How many different number sentences can you write down where the answer is 230?
