Imagine finding a green rock and discovering it could turn into shiny metal if heated in a fire! Thousands of years ago, people did just that. In rocks such as malachite and azurite, copper was discovered – the first metal used by humans. It could be shaped into tools, weapons and jewellery – changing farming, building, and trade forever.
