Morning Starters: Summer 1 - Strange but True

Thursday

Clip Description

Meet the bizarre club-winged manakin, a bird that sings with its wings. By rubbing specialized wing feathers together, it produces a unique, violin-like sound to attract mates. This extraordinary ability (a process called stridulation that is mostly associated with leg-rubbing insects such as crickets and grasshoppers) is extremely rare in the bird world.
