Writing Ideas

  • Write a set of instructions for a toad that will help it cross a dangerous road safely.
  • You are a toad and you are fed up with humans confusing you with frogs. Write a letter to a human (this could be the owner of the garden that you often hibernate in), explaining exactly why you are different. The Woodland Trust website has lots of information about frogs and toads and the differences between them.
  • Read the poem, Toad’s Adventure, by Juliet Wilson. Use the poem as inspiration for writing your own poem or short story that talks about a toad’s adventure as it leaves its hibernation spot and the dangers it meets on the way to a lake.
