Black bears are the most common bear species in North America. They are tree-climbing specialists, and they are usually found living in forests. Whilst they mainly eat insects, berries, grasses and roots, they will also eat fish, mammals and even human food and rubbish that has been thrown away. They’ve even been known to unscrew jam jar lids and open the latches of doors in their quest for food!
