Writing Ideas

  • As the Caribbean dancer, Sally Lightfoot, write a letter to the crab featured in the clip. In your letter, write about your admiration for the crab and its extreme agility. Express how relieved you were when you learnt about the crab’s recent escape from the moray eel.
  • Write a haiku describing, through the senses, a moment in time from the film clip. e.g. the frantic crab desperately trying to escape the crushing jaws of the eel.
  • Sally Lightfoot crabs are a common sight along the lava rock shores of the Galapagos Islands. Imagine you have just set foot on the islands as part of Charles Darwin‘s team. As the crustacean expert, you must record your observations of this remarkable species of crab. Don’t forget to include details of both its appearance and unusual behaviour.
