Writing Ideas

  • Using the power of words, write your own persuasive letter or create an informative poster that will spread the message about the importance of sharks and why they must be protected. Visit the Shark Research Institute website to find out what other children have been doing to help these majestic creatures.
  • You are in a restaurant and you notice that shark fin soup is on the menu. Rather than walking out in disgust, you decide to persuade the restaurant owner to stop serving this item to its customers. Using your knowledge of shark finning, how will you (politely) persuade the owner? Role-play the conversation with your talk partner. You could use your writing skills and write a short script for this restaurant scene.
  • Watch the related clip below which explains in greater detail what all sharks have in common. Now write your own information report titled – Sharks: Common Characteristics. Make sure that you use the full range of cohesive devices.
