  • From 1900 to the 1930s, flying fish were studied by engineers, who used their design to develop aircraft. Write a comparison chart for an aeroplane and a flying fish. Record both the similarities and differences between the two.
  • Flying fish encounter threats in both the sky and in the ocean. Write a commentary in the style of David Attenborough that describes the animal’s frantic journey of survival.
  • Read The Flattered Flying Fish by E.V. Rieu. Continue the conversation that was had between the characters once they were dining together. Perhaps the flying fish will convince the shark not to eat her?
