Writing Ideas

  • Read the poem Locusts by Robert Morgan. Do we learn anything new about locusts? Once you have found out some more information about these remarkable insects, write some additional rhyming couplets (AA, BB, CC) for the poem.
  • You are a farmer, whose crops have been devastated by a swarm of locusts. Write a letter to the leader of the swarm that not only conveys your deep dismay by the swarm’s actions, but will somehow persuade the leader to leave your cropland alone once the growing seasons gets underway once more.
