Writing Ideas

  • Using what you have seen in the clip (and your imagination!), write an instruction guide titled How to care for an orphaned hippo. Think about what conditions they need to live comfortably, what they like to eat, and anything else they might need.
  • Read the hippo concrete (shape) poem by the poet and author Liz Brownlee. See if you can create your own concrete poem based on what you have learnt about this charismatic animal. For further information on the hippopotamus, visit National Geographic Kids.
  • Imagine a conversation between Molly and Emma that had taken place once Lucy and Petranell had left them alone. Record this conversation using reported speech.
