The collective noun to describe a large gathering of flamingos is a ‘flamboyance!’ They flock together in huge numbers on salt flats, lagoons, lakes and swamps. The pinkness of their feathers comes from a red-orange pigment found in the algae and shrimp that they eat.

Use PAWS and column addition to solve the following word problem.

In southern France, 49,374 adult pink flamingos and 11,928 grey baby flamingos were feeding on algae in a salt marsh. This number included 24,187 nesting pairs.

How many flamingos were feeding altogether in the salt marsh.
