Writing Ideas

  • Read Kenn Nesbitt’s poem My Hamster Has a Skateboard. Can you write an additional verse for the poem? Perhaps your skateboarding hamster will have a crash that leads to it becoming stuck in a glass jar?
  • Imagine that you visited the graveyard featured in the clip. Having stumbled across a European hamster who is struggling to free himself from a jar, you strike up a conversation. Write about this encounter and what he tells you. What reasons does he give for being in the graveyard? Is he sorry for stealing the flowers and the candlewax? What advice do you give him?
  • Read Aesop’s fable The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. Can you adapt this tale so that it is about a pet hamster and a wild hamster? Whose life will be the most fraught with danger?
